We are delighted, and congratulate, University of Glasgow Dental School on the award of £1.3m from the Scottish Government to help establish Malawi’s first Dental School. Jeremy Bagg, the Lead Project Manager is currently a Vice-Dean of the Dental Faculty of the College and a member of the College’s Global Health Group, which focuses on work to enhance medical education in Malawi.
Within various specialties of medicine and surgery the College is very active in Malawi and has a strong commitment to Global Citizenship. Although this project is being led by the University of Glasgow, the College is a significant partner. It funded the travel for the Lead Project Manager to visit Malawi in September 2017 and views the MalDent Project as one of its flagship projects.
The College will support MalDent through visiting faculty and use of College’s audio-visual facility for delivery of on-line learning and teaching.
The Dental Faculty of the College has broad expertise in oral and dental health and clinical dental sciences. Under the programme, it will call on its body of over 3000 Members and Fellows, in conjunction with Glasgow Dental School, to create small teams of visiting faculty that will deliver face to face teaching in subject areas which the Malawi College of Medicine has yet to recruit.
