College launches new Policy Network

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow is offering its membership an opportunity to play a part in shaping the institution’s policies as part of a new Policy Network.

The new Network is open to all Fellows and Members, and will act as a conduit for Fellows and Members to participate in preparing the College’s response to consultation exercises and inquires, as well as taking a proactive role in developing the College’s position on a range of key issues for our membership.

Speaking at the launch of the network, the College’s Honorary Secretary Richard Hull said:

“Our College plays a leading role as a respected and authoritative voice within the health sector across the UK. Over the past year we’ve made great advances in professionalising our approach to engaging more effectively with government, parliament and the wider health sector when it comes to creating effective health policy.

We have an opportunity to further build on this work by putting the combined skills and experience of our fourteen thousand members at the forefront of our work in this area. We hope that by signing up to participate in our new Policy Network, we can encourage a wider cross-section of our membership to play their part in this important work, and ensure that the College’s voice is heard loudly and clearly when decisions are made.

At the moment, the College is looking for members’ views to inform our evidence to:

  • A GMC consultation on the guidance around medical consent
  • A clinical consultation by NICE on specialist neonatal respiratory care for babies born preterm

Along with opportunities to contribute to consultations, members of the Policy Network will:

  • Receive an invitation to attend complimentary, CPD-accredited, College policy events
  • Be eligible to receive personal CPD-accredited media and social media training
  • Receive quarterly email updates on the College’s public affairs and PR activity, including our participation in consultation responses and opportunities to contribute

Members who wish to join the Network are required to compete an application form, which should be returned by email to policynetwork@rcpsg.ac.uk.

Further information on our plans for the establishment of the Policy Network, or about our wider work to engage and influence the development of health policy, can be obtained from our Public Affairs Team at policynetwork@rcpsg.ac.uk.
