College sets out support for new government measures to combat COVID-19

04 Jan 2021

“We absolutely must vaccinate as many people as we can, as fast as we possibly can. In the meantime, tougher restrictions are our best line of defence. I know how hard this is, but I cannot emphasise enough just how important it is to stay at home and follow all restrictions. Only these measures can reduce transmission and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed.”

Speaking following announcements today (Monday 4th January 2021) from both the Prime Minister of the UK and the First Minister of Scotland on new measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the UK, College President Professor Jackie Taylor supported the measures taken, and called on the public to play their part in combatting the virus and protecting the NHS.

She said:

“We’re facing the grim onslaught of this highly transmissible variant which risks exceeding NHS capacity. We absolutely must vaccinate as many people as we can, as fast as we possibly can. In the meantime, tougher restrictions are our best line of defence. I know how hard this is, but I cannot emphasise enough just how important it is to stay at home and follow all restrictions. Only these measures can reduce transmission and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed.”
