The College is delighted to announce the appointment of David Wylie as our new Director of Professional Education.
Announcing the appointment, College President Professor Jackie Taylor said:
“This new post reflects the vital importance of non-clinical education and training for our multi-disciplinary membership.
“This emerging area of education gives our College a unique opportunity to differentiate our offering to health care professionals. Our goal is to develop a range of world-class educational products which are relevant all of our membership, whatever their area of expertise and wherever they are in the world. Earlier this year we identified the need to appoint a senior clinician to shape and guide the strategic planning and delivery of this expanding programme, and we’re delighted to be able to appoint David Wylie to this vital new post.”
David is Head of Podiatry for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and he became a Fellow of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine in 2013. In addition, he has completed two postgraduate healthcare degrees.
David has as a strong academic profile and is an Honorary Fellow of Glasgow Caledonian University. He is experienced in coordinating and managing research and audit activities in partnership with Higher Education Institutions and within his NHS role he works in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University to deliver practice placements and is a member of undergraduate and post graduate Programme Boards.
He also has extensive leadership experience and has won awards including for Innovation in Health Care, Excellence in Service Provision and the Renfrewshire CHP Staff Award for Excellence. He was a Leadership finalist in the NHS Scotland Health Care awards in 2018.
Upon his appointment, David said:

“It is my hope that by providing cross faculty educational support in areas such as leadership, coaching, mentorship, resilience, self-awareness and organisational culture, we will be able to learn with and from each other in order to more fully support clinicians’ personal and professional development”.
The College’s non-clinical education content will be structured around three key areas:
- Medical education and supervision
- Professional and personal development
- Patient safety and quality improvement
As part of his role, David will lead and shape a Non-Clinical Education Board which will interact with the education governance from each discipline and faculty. He will work alongside, and be supported by, the Director of Education & Assessment.
