On 13 May 2015 the Certification of Death (Scotland) Act 2011 comes into force. This brings a number of changes including the introduction of a new national review service – led by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) – to check the accuracy of a sample of MCCDs. As a result, there will be a requirement for certifying doctors to provide HIS with relevant documents to assist the scrutiny process, as and when required.
HIS has produced an information sheet on the new review service and what it means for certifying doctors. It’s important that all certifying doctors in primary and acute settings are aware of the new arrangements.
