Trainees welcome Shape of Training report

Our College has welcomed the Shape of Training report by Professor David Greenaway which proposes a shake up in the way doctors are trained. The proposed changes have also received the backing of trainees.

Surgical trainee and member of our Trainees Committee, Gary Nicholson commented: "As a Surgical Trainee in the West of Scotland I am heartened by the review recommendations in the Greenaway report.

There is clear, independent advice that for the doctors of tomorrow to be able to help meet the care demands of an evolving population of patients,we need more flexibility and broad based training in the early years of medical and surgical training.

This can only be met through the proposed paradigm shift in training towards more doctors with general capabilities across many disciplines.

This represents an appealing model to me. I look forward to working within this brave new system and with its trainees."
