College responds to doctors immigration rule change

Responding today to the announcement that the Home Secretary is to change current UK immigration rules in order to exempt doctors and nurses from the Tier 2 (General) limit, Professor David Galloway, the President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow said:

” This is welcome news. Our College recently joined with a number of health organisations to make the case for progressive changes to the UK’s immigration system in order to help address the ongoing workforce challenges facing the NHS in every part of the country, and so we’re glad that the Home Secretary has listened to these measured calls. While today’s announcement will not solve all the workforce issues, it is a significant step in the right direction.”
